Time flies as usual and just a few days miss at Christmas. It seems yesterday that I wrote about Christmas in the city. Now, I am back again with a special blog post dedicated to this time of the year where I’ve collected some ideas to give you in order to live Christmas in Modena in the best way.
1 – Walking along the streets of the historic centers looking up at their beautiful lights
There is nothing to do: admiring Christmas lights always remains the great attraction of this period. Every day, we wait for the evening arrival to enjoy this beautiful show. Going out for a walk in historic center of Modena and in the other towns of the province and admiring the beautiful illuminations is a thing that I love and that is at the top of my list 😉
2 – Skating on ice in Piazza Roma
It seems impossible but we are in the beautiful Piazza Roma that for the occasion was provided with an ice rink of 400 square meters of real ice!
It will be open until 31st January for most of the winter season. Last year I’ve been here several times admiring people skating, this year I took the initiative and I put skates on. It has been really impressive skating in a location like this.
3 – Coming back to childhood with the red Christmas train
How is it possible to resist to this lovely red train? A ride on it is a must, especially because part of the earning will be donated to the AIL Modena Onlus. Last stop is in Piazza Grande and until 23rd December the train will be ready to leave from Monday to Friday from 15:30 to 19:30 and on Saturday and on Sunday morning.
4 – Going to a gospel show
Attending one of these energetic and involving show, especially in this time of the year, is definitely a good idea. For example, I’ve bought the tickets to Pastor Ron’s show on 21st December at Michelangelo theatre. Searching a little bit on web I’m sure you will be able to find several interesting events like this.
5 – Shopping for the last Christmas presents
Buying Christmas gifts is a great classic! There are people who love it and others who consider it a little bit stressful. I like going out looking for new ideas, but I admit that the little time it’s a factor that can affect the state of mind with which you can do it. It would be nice to think about Christmas presents not only in this precise period but all the year, it would give the opportunity to buy he right thing for the right person. Unlikely, very often, we do this at the last moment. So new ideas are welcome!
I’ve already suggested you 3 shops to go, now we leave you other 2 ideas.
If you are looking for a female present you should visit Grazia’s shop, Intimo e Personale, in via Scarpa 5. I’m sure she will be able to find the right dress or accessory for you. Say her that it’s me that I advice you 😉
Otherwise, if you are looking for “particular things” I recommend you to enter in Bensone shop, in Corso Canalchiaro 138a, a creative boutique where I met Ennio, a very special artist who realizes unique and personalized creations (his T-shirts are very famous).
6 – Tasting traditional food
This is the perfect time to taste some traditional food of my city! We eat them all the year but in this season they taste better 😉
Cotechino, zampone and boiled meat in general are the kings of the tables, then you can not eat tortellini (that warm soul and heart ;)). Even if Modenese people use to prepare them at home, going out to try some traditional restaurants it’s very characteristic!
7 – Toasting to Christmas
Finally, it can’t obviously miss a cheers in my list! As I already told you, Christmas decoration in Mon Cafè, in C.so Canalchiaro 128, are special (look at the picture!) and the atmosphere is very cozy. Then there is a date that every year waits for us: at the Christmas Eve, on 24th December, at Caffè Concerto, in Piazza Grande, we celebrate and make a toast at the shade of Ghirlandina tower.
Have you other ideas for Christmas? If you want to tell me them I wait for your comments 🙂
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🙂
