I often wonder if there are places where to spend some peaceful hours\u00a0near Modena! Organizing an outdoor trip is a lovely pastime \ud83d\ude42 When I fell that I would like to do that I immediately think to our beautiful Modena\u00a0Apennines<\/strong> where it’s possible to find perfect places to live special moments of leisure. So, this summer I visited Bucamante Waterfalls<\/strong><\/em> near Serramazzoni, 30 minutes far from Modena. I tell you my experience.<\/p>\n

I have to be honest: I am a little bit citizen by nature (perhaps because I grew up in the city) and it doesn’t happen often as I would like to find opportunities to organize trips in the countryside or in the mountains. I am very sorry about that, because there are places able to regenerate you and put you in touch with a different dimension! So, in my list of good intentions there is the desire to continue discovering new places nearby.<\/p>\n

Bucamante Waterfalls: all the details on this naturalistic beauty<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n

Let’s go back to the Bucamante Waterfalls<\/em>!<\/strong> They were not a real discovery to me. I knew of their existence, but I didn’t remember having been there in adulthood. So, on a warm Sunday of August, looking for some refreshment, I started to search in Google a place that could give me a little bit of fresh air and I found them!<\/p>\n

Bucamante Waterfalls: the origin of their name<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Perhaps you’re asking… why are these waterfalls called in this way? Their name refers to one of the most famous and known legends of our Apennines, perhaps the most romantic one. It tells about the forbidden love between Odina<\/em>, a noblewoman, and Titiro<\/em>, a simple shepherd. In front of the impossibility of living freely their feelings, they start to meet in secret. Once discovered, Odina<\/em>\u00a0was locked up but she was able to escape and reach his beloved. Realizing that their love was really\u00a0<\/span>impossible now, the two lovers chose to throw themselves embraced by the falls and love each other for the eternity. The name “Bucamante”,<\/em> therefore, derives from the union of the two words “Buca” and “Amante” (the lovers’ hole<\/em>). Romantic, no?<\/span><\/p>\n

Bucamante Waterfalls: when to go<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

I was there in the in August but reading several articles about this place, the waterfalls are wonderful at all times of the year. If, in fact, in summer it is probable that there isn’t so much water, the vegetation is lush and gives coolness and shade. In autumn and spring there is certainly more water, thanks to the rains, but the show in the surroundings and the weather could be very different.<\/p>\n

Bucamante Waterfalls: where they are and how to reach them<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Bucamante Waterfall<\/em>s are located in the municipality of Serramazzoni,<\/strong> in the Granarolo area. The most direct road from Modena is the SS 12 Nuova Estense<\/strong>, towards Serramazzoni – Pavullo. Just a few kilometers after Torre Maina (4-5), you will find the junction for Pazzano and the signs for the waterfalls (on the right). In order not to make a mistake I put on Google Maps the destination “Bucamante Waterfalls Parking”<\/a>\ud83d\ude09 The road to get there is not very wide, but it is not very busy, so I get there well. I arrived around 12.00 on a Sunday of late August. The parking was not full and everything was very easy. But I also read that sometimes there can be many people and that it is better to park where you can on the way to Pazzano.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Bucamante\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Waterfalls: my experience<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n

Once you reach the parking, you are at the beginning of the trail. Here you will find a sign with some photos that will show you the way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Take the dirt road, following the signs and, a little further on, after a short walk of a few hundred meters, you will be facing a crossroad: here you have to choose which route to take. The walkable paths, which at the end join together, are two: Odina<\/em><\/strong>, the low one that runs along the river, and Titiro<\/strong><\/em>, the high one that looks at it from above. Both trails are adapt for everyone, including children who move independently, better if you wear a good pair of sneakers with soles that grip the ground. However, it is not recommended to come here with baby carriages or walkers because the paths are not suitable.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I chose the first one, Odina, because in summer it is the one that gives you more shade and fresh and immediately put you in contact with the waters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Walking along this path, you will immediately desire to stop in one of the several rest areas that meet on your road. Here you can sit on the boulders, soak your feet, enjoy the view and the coolness of the nice little cascades that follow each other.<\/span><\/p>\n
