I love Italian aperitifs 🙂
We call “aperitivo” a pre-dinner drink that “open” the palate and make us socialize, talk and relax with friends in a lovely place. I think that aperitifs should be organized every evenings, because they have the power to make you feel better!
In this pleasant season they could be an occasion to have a walk in the center of the city and enjoy the atmosphere. There are many places where you can sit down and have a good glass of wine and beer and it’s really difficult to suggest the “best”. I don’t think it’s a matter to be “the best” because it’s depend on your wills or needs, on what you want to eat and drink and which atmosphere you want to live.
Therefore I’ve decided to write down here the 3 places that I immediately think about when I decide to go out to have an “aperitivo”.
Giusti Caffetteria
This place is the first of my list. “Caffetteria Giusti” is a famous coffe/wine bar in Farini street, 83, at the end of the street, near the beautiful “Piazza Roma”. From its tables you can enjoy a beautiful view on the Modena’s Ducal Palace.
I like this place because:
it’s a place with an old charm, near the historical Enogastronomia – Hosteria Giusti, whose name is the same. The background is wonderful, foods are of good quality, wines are superb and if you are hungry after having tried its tasty Italian sandwiches ,”tramezzini”, you can order a dish of Parmesan Ham. Despite of the first appearance, prices are reasonable.
Mon Café
Mon Café is a place that you can attend from the morning for your breakfast to the night. The owners, Antonio e Alessandro, have thought it as a place where people can meet and relax also for a minute or enjoy a nice evenings with friends. It’s situated at the beginning of C.so Canalchiaro, it’s a cozy place, both inside and in its dehor, I love its shabby chic furniture and details!
I like this place because: the location is superb, very scenographic ( I love its style!). I met Antonio for chance, in other circumstances (I’ve been his client renting his beautiful B&B Quartopiano for a photographical project) and I had the possibility to touch his good taste for the details. Wines, beers and the superlative cocktails, made by Giampi, make you aperitif perfect and if you want to stay for dinner you can try Mon Cafè’s cuisine.
Archer
Archer, in via Cesare Battisti 54, it’s not a common wine bar it’s a sort of “gastro-pub” where you can drink excellent wines and taste a selection of quality foods, made by the owner, Marina. I usually go there for my aperitivo and then I stay for the dinner.
I like this place because of its great wine offer (Marina is an expert in the field) and because it is really quite and has an original style, then sitting in the tables outside is very relaxing. Archer is also famous for its bench, Marina was very good to make it become a symbol of her pub: it’s a must sitting on it and have a picture.
Wherever you decide to have your aperitif, it is really a great invention!
I collected some pictures of my “aperitivi” in Modena in this story on Steller where I wrote a list of places to go for aperitifs in my city:
