I love to make experiments, especially when they are about food! When I travel, I like to know the places where I go also by tasting local specialties. Through food, in fact, you can get in touch with other cultures and learn so many things! Indeed, I like the idea of eating in the ethnic restaurants of my city and when I find one I’ve never tried before, I can’t resist, I go! You can travel remaining sitting at your table 🙂
Ready to leave? Here we go!
That traditional Cuisine of Modena is one of my passions, it’s not a mystery 😉 So if you want to try one of the most typical restaurants in Modena here I suggest you where to go.
But today I want to take you with me around the world even if we will remain in Modena in order to discover 8 Cuisine and types of food that I liked very much!
1) Don Quijote: the Spanish restaurant in Modena
I know well the Spanish cuisine: I often was in Spain and every time I go there I appreciate its food very much, paella at first place! And what about tapas?! If there weren’t they should be invented 🙂
If you don’t know what tapas are (I know that’s simply impossible 😉 ) they are series of traditional hot and cold dishes, born as small snacks, served before the main course. You can read here the restaurant menu. Don Quijote is a nice and lively address, ideal for spending an evening enjoying the Spanish mood. Ah, don’t forget to accompany all foods with Sangria! 😉
Don Quijote is in Strada Nazionale per Carpi 27.

2) Persepolis: the Persian restaurant in Modena
It had never happened to me to try the Persian food before coming here and I must say I was surprised in a very positive way. The place is very nice and welcoming. The atmosphere is special, intimate and distinctive. The staff is friendly and ready to explain you the menu. Here, all the dishes are prepared according to traditional recipes. The gastronomic Persian culture has among its main ingredients the Basmati rice, accompanied by aromatic sauces, often served with stewed veal, or made with saffron cream, currants, pistachios, almonds or skewers of marinated rooster, and spices (as turmeric and cinnamon). So the dishes results aromatic but always with a delicate taste, thanks to a good balance of the flavors. I like them!
Persepolis is in via Bono da Nonantola 1, near Novi Sad park.

3) India: the Indian restaurant in Modena
I have never been in India but I’ve tried several times the Indian Cuisine in the many restaurants around the world and I love it 🙂 At India restaurant, the atmosphere is typical. The place is small but cozy (don’t be fooled by your first outside impression!). Dishes are good and different, they include appetizers, second courses, side dishes (an advice: try all their breads) and desserts: there is, as usual it happens in Indian restaurants, a plenty of choice. Their proposal of fixed menus is interesting.
India is in via Pelusia 203.

4) “Rosticceria della Gioia”: the Egyptian restaurant in Modena
“Rosticceria della Gioia” is a true rotisserie! The place is simple, once you entered you find some tables and, just in front of you, the counter where are all the dishes. If you proceed, you arrive in another room, more intimate and very welcoming. The preparations are good and rich, with strong flavors and fragrances. The couscous with vegetables is super! At the end of your meal, ask the friendly and helpful owner for his mint tea, that is special, especially if it is accompanied by their delicious sweets 🙂 The price here is unbeatable!
“Rosticceria della Gioia” is in via Carteria 80, in the centre of the city.

5) “Mucca Argentina”: the Argentine restaurant in Modena
Argentina is a place that I want to visit too! In the meanwhile, I don’t miss to go to the Argentine restaurant to enjoy the grilled meat and the Argentine wines 🙂 The place is nice even if it’s not so typical, the staff is very friendly and the service fast. Their offer of meat is various. Before your main course, I recommend you to try some “empanadas” (stuffed pasta usually with meat) and then, finally, a good crepe with the famous “dulce de leche” (a tasty sweet cream made with milk and sugar).
Mucca Argentina is in via Emilia Est 1517.

6) Chacarero (Churrasco): a steakhouse with Mexican and Latin-American contaminations
Chacarero is one of the places in the city that people usually choose when they want to eat good meat. It’s a steak-house with Latin American influences. The restaurant is cheerful and welcoming, decorated in a Mexican style, with an hushed and intimate atmosphere, at the same time “caliente” and lively. Latin music is in the background of this gastronomic experience. The menu is varied and ranges from starters (such as nachos, which I love!) to the typical tacos, grilled meat and parrilladas. Here, the cocktails are excellent and you should also think to accompany your dinner with one of them 🙂
Churrasco is in via San Giacomo 56, in the centre of Modena.

7) Veracruz: the Mexican restaurant in Modena
Mexican Cuisine is for me like the Spanish one: it makes me happy and reminds me the wonderful Mexico, a country that I have visited several times. Veracruz is a true Mexican restaurant located in San Damaso, few kilometers far from the city. Cozy, colorful and lively, it’s a place where kindness doesn’t miss (the owner, Gerry, is there for you!). The food is typical, a blaze of: nachos, tortillas, quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, fajitas meat and vegetables, or only vegetarian, served directly on the cooking hot plate. Finally, I suggest you to accompany your meal with a Mexican beer and end with… Tequila (in moderation 😉 )! This is an address where I always return with great pleasure!
Veracruz is in via San Damaso 3, just far from the centre of the city.

8) Prime Restaurant: a breath of South America in the heart of Modena
I visited some South American countries but I’ve never been in Venezuela where the owners of this restaurant in the center of Modena come from. The menu offers a selection of dishes from Latin America that well coexist with European flavors. The place is very lovely, modern and colorful. Good music (strictly Latin), genuine food and excellent cocktails make this place perfect to spend an evening in the typical latin mood. Take a look at the menu, if you want discover more.
The Prime Restaurant is in via Scarpa 8:
